Sigurd Redbeard was a pirate and former member of the Red Brotherhood. In his later years he gave up the Red Trade and turned an honest and profitable living running a merchantman between Messantia and Kordava. He eventually settled down with a Vanir woman called Frigga and raised a large family.
After his children were fully grown, Sigurd left his honest merchant's life to return to piracy and the excitement of his youth, and encountered Conan the Cimmerian in Messantia who had recently abdicated his rule of Aquilonia to defeat the threat of the Red Shadows.
Conan and Sigurd partnered up and travelled to the Isles of Antillia to confront and defeat the power of the demon-god Xotli, before departing for unknown adventures on the continent of Mayapan.
