Geography of the Hyborian Age
The Hyborian Age is the period of history between the drowning of Atlantis and the beginning of recorded history, unknown to modern scholars. It's the setting for Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures and the tales concerning this age largely revolve around Conan, a barbarian from Cimmeria who rose to become King of Aquilonia by his own hand.
The Hyborian Age was first described by Robert E. Howard, writing in the 1930s, and expanded upon by him in his essay of the same name. It has since been expanded by many others in comics, novels, stories, and films.
Playfields[]
Currently, seven regions of the world are accessible to players: The Barachan Isles, The Border Kingdoms, Aquilonia, Cimmeria, Khitai, Stygia, and Turan. The Khitai regions are available only to those players who own the Rise of the Godslayer expansion. Multiple sites within each of these regions can be explored; these are called playfields, regions or zones and are listed below. Different Types of Playfields[]
Hubs are major or important cities and bases of operation, home to many vendors and quest-givers. On all server types, they are safe zones; open PvP is not permitted. They also provide opportunities for roleplaying.
Adventure Regions are areas of the open world in which players can explore, pursue quests, interact with NPCs and slay ferocious beasts. Adventure Regions are the primary locales for PvE play, but on PvP servers characters are flagged for PvP in them.
Resource and Building regions are where players can find and harvest various types of resources that can be used in crafting or in trade. In addition, guild cities can be built in these zones, which are therefore the locations where PvP siege play occurs.
Besides Adventure and Resource zones the game also offers a wide variety of smaller zones and instances. Instances can be entered alone or in groups and offer a fun experience in a unique and different setting.
